Consumer Reports Tests, Ranks PCs

By Staff -- TWICE, 5/19/2008

In its latest tests of desktops and laptops, Consumer Reports looked at 24 laptops, 14 desktops and six all-in-one models, including the thinnest (Apple's Macbook Air), smallest (Asus Eee PC) and largest laptops (Hewlett-Packard Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook) it has ever tested.

As a result of its test, the magazine ranked the models according to its findings and also made a number of recommendations based on potential consumer needs.

It said it recommends Lenovo's ThinkPad T61 and ThinkPad R61, Toshiba's Satellite A215-S5818 and Dell's Inspiron 1525 for consumers searching for "laptops for basic needs."

For consumer looking for an "inexpensive desktop," Consumer Reports recommended the Lenovo 3000 J200.

It suggested HP's Pavilion m9100t, Pavilion a6250t or Dell's Inspiron 530S for consumers looking for a desktop with "more features and performance."

The full report is available in the June issue of Consumer Reports.
