Majap Vendors Shift Management

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/30/2006

Three majap manufacturers have announced changes in their senior ranks this month.

The highest-level switch was LG's appointment of Soon H. Kwon to president of the LG Electronics USA digital appliance division. He succeeds Teddy Hwang, who returned to LG headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, after one year in that post to assume the role of digital appliance overseas sales and marketing executive VP.

Kwon has spent 22 years at LG, most recently as president of LG Electronics-Canada, and will now report to Michael Ahn, president/CEO of LG Electronics North American headquarters. Kwon will leverage his brand management background to expand LG's U.S. majap market share, the company said.

Elsewhere, BSH Home Appliances has reorganized its corporate structure to support its recent fast-paced growth, which saw the business double in the past three years as its U.S. manufacturing and sales base has expanded.

The changes include new reporting structures, the creation of four sales regions across the United States (Northeast, Southeast, Central and West), and the addition of executives in key posts.

Among the latter, Mark Russell was promoted to the newly created position of strategic marketing VP, with responsibility for product and brand marketing, design and strategic sales support. Russell was previously sales director for the Thermador and Gaggenau brands. Also, Zach Elkin has joined BSH from Sears' contract division as director/builder business, a new post. Both report to president and CEO Franz Bosshard.

Meanwhile, Whirlpool has named former corporate VP and controller Ted Dosch as finance corporate VP, project management office, which manages the planning and integration of the anticipated Maytag acquisition. Larry Venturelli, previously investor relations VP, succeeds Dosch as VP and controller.
