Matsushita Expands Olympic Partnership

By Steve Smith -- TWICE, 8/7/2002

Osaka, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial, maker of the Panasonic brand, has signed an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to renew its worldwide Olympic partnership for the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Under this agreement, Panasonic's existing partnership with the Olympics as Worldwide Official Partner in the category of audio, TV and video equipment, and recording media relating to audio and moving images now includes car navigation systems and related multimedia equipment. Panasonic will further extend its first right to provide security systems to the Organizing Committees of the Torino and Beijing Games.

Panasonic expects to play a vital role in the delivery of products, services and expertise in all areas relevant to its category, Matsushita said. Panasonic will provide broader support to the Torino 2006 and Beijing 2008 Games than it has for past Games. Panasonic will contribute audio/video equipment such as Astrovision large display systems, RAMSA professional sound systems, large projection systems, and consumer electronics products.

Matsushita and the Panasonic brand has been an Official Partner since the Calgary and Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, with the aim of providing financial and technical support to the staging of the Olympic Games.
