Epson Debuts High-End Printer, All-In-One

LONG BEACH, CALIF. — Epson will ship a high-end photo printer to dealers next month and a new consumer all-in-one this month.
The Stylus Photo R2880, which replaces the R2400, can produce prints up to 13 inches wide and uses the firm's new Radiance Technology, which was introduced on the R1900. Radiance is a "mathematical architecture" co-developed by Epson and the Rochester Institute of Technology that's built into the printer to optimize how inks are mixed.
The printer uses the company's UltraChrome K3 inks with Vivid Magenta technology — a new, high-density form of magenta pigments that Epson said produces a wider color gamut.
In addition to photo papers, the R2880 can print on 1.3mm art boards, canvas media and on inkjet printable CDs/DVDs.
The R2880 sports a pair of USB ports for connecting two computers and will retail for $799.
The company also introduced the NX400 all-in-one.
The NX400 offers prints speeds of up to 34 ppm for black and color text documents, 4-inch by 6-inch borderless photos in as fast as 26 seconds, and up to 30 copies per minute for both black and color copies.
It offers one-touch color copying and scanning, and sports card slots and a 2.5-inch tilting LCD.
The NX400 uses individual ink cartridges capable of producing three droplet sizes.
It features automatic photo-correction technology with face detection for enhancing portraits.
It is now shipping for a suggested $99.99.
