Fujifilm Gets Sensitive With New Z-Series Model

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 6/5/2006

Fujifilm introduced the replacement for its FinePix Z1 last week, bringing for the first time many of its low-light photo features into its slim-line series.

The new, 5-megapixel FinePix Z3 employs Fujifilm's Super CCD and Real Photo Technology. It offers “one-touch picture stabilization” technology that combines high light sensitivities of up to ISO 1,600 with faster shutter speeds.

The camera offers the mode through a dedicated button on the camera.

The camera also incorporates Fujifilm's i-Flash, which can read a scene automatically and adjust flash intensity accordingly to ensure accurate exposures. In Natural Light with Flash Mode the Z3 quickly shoots two images in rapid succession — one with and one without the flash — and saves both for a side-by-side comparison.

The unit also features a scratch-resistant, 2.5-inch LCD with 230,000-pixel resolution and Fujifilm's glare-reducing CV Film for improved viewing in direct light. The Z3 also offers a non-extending 3x optical zoom lens, which reduces the overall form factor of the camera, the company said.

Finally, the camera features 14 preprogrammed scene modes, VGA movie recording at 30 frames per second with sound and 10MB of internal memory.

The camera will be available in July in silver or metallic blue for a suggested retail price of $279.95.
