Rotel's Tabletop Remote Control Merges Ergonomics, Technology

Staff -- TWICE, 3/12/2001

NORTH READING, MASS. -Rotel of America's tabletop remote control model RR-1090 combines preprogrammed codes, learning capability and computer communications.

Developed to add flexibility while minimizing complexity, the ergonomically designed tabletop model replaces up to eight separate remotes, said Rotel. It offers a large, centrally located backlit LCD screen that provides instant feedback even in a darkened home-theater setting.

Users can select a particular component through 12 menu-command buttons, and they can program the remote to activate up to 48 individual commands for each device or system component. Two large multi-axis buttons control DVD players, VCRs, menu navigation, channel select, volume alignment and others. Four macro keys activate a stream of up to 10 preprogrammed commands.

For computer-savvy users, Rotel's RR-1090 is supplied with PC Link software and cable. This allows even easier programming and customization by using the power of a Windows-driven personal computer, Rotel said.

Availability is June, and suggested retail is $299.
