Gateway Adds PC, Notebook, MP3 For Holiday Sales

Staff -- TWICE, 11/8/2004

Gateway launched a desktop, notebook and MP3 player late last week in preparation for the holiday season.

The Gateway 7200 desktop PC series, with a $1,199 starting price, is based on Gateway's BTX chassis design and is geared toward the power home-user interested in making home movies, burning DVDs and downloading music. The unit's basic features included a range of Pentium 4 processors and a double-layer and dual-format DVD burner.

The company also started shipping the eMachines' M5405 notebook computer. It is based on an AMD Sempron 2500+ processor and ATI Radeon graphics card. It has a 15.4-inch display, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, integrated Wi-Fi and a $999 street price, after $100 rebate.

The new MP3 player, $249 street price, has a 4GB hard drive and is intended primarily for music playback, but also has a small LCD screen for viewing images. It will play WMA and MP3 files. It also began shipping last week.
