Nintendo: 6M U.S. GBA Sales

Staff -- TWICE, 6/24/2002

Nintendo America reported sales of its popular Game Boy Advance handheld game player has sold more than 6 million units in its first full year in the market.

Nintendo said the performance is outpacing sales of all other video-game systems on the market, including Sony's Playstation2, which is said to be the top-selling home-based game console.

To underscore the accomplishment, Nintendo said it would sell a special limited edition Platinum Game Boy Advance, which it demonstrated at the recent E3 show in Los Angeles.

In recent financial statements the company's Japanese parent said it expects to ship 19 million combined hardware players (Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance) worldwide this year.
