802.11 Speaker Interest

Dallas — About one-third of current home-network owners are interested in varying degrees in buying wireless 802.11-enabled speakers, according to The Diffusion Group, a market-research company. Among home-network owners and people intending to install a home network, 53 percent are interested in buying 802.11 speakers priced below $100, and 45 percent are interested if the price is between $100 and $150. "There is a lot of early interest in wirelessly networked speakers," contends analyst Dale Gilliam. "And naturally so, because as computers operating with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition are replacing many CES devices in the home theater, wirelessly networked speakers offer a convenient solution for replacing speakers formerly connected to the home stereo."

KSC Touts Amp Tech

San Diego — KSC Industries has been tapped to market Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower digital amplifier and power-supply technologies to potential OEM customers in the consumer, commercial, professional, studio, custom-install, automotive and marine markets. KSC offers its own suite of digital audio processors, audio interfaces, routers and other modules, enabling it to "provide turnkey ICEpower-based solutions. KSC said it will provide engineering integration and customer support to help companies develop audio products based on the technologies, said to be efficient and reliable.

Strategic Triad Addition

Portland, Ore. — Triad plans spring shipments of a new in-ceiling speaker series that hits opening price points lower than previously offered. The InCeiling OmniRound models are two-way, sealed-enclosure models in 5.25-inch, 6.5-inch and 8-inch sizes. At suggested per-speaker prices of $200, $250 and $300, respectively. They feature silk-dome tweeters and Kevlar carbon-fiber woofers.
