European Supplier Of Blank Media Enters US Market

PLAINVILLE, MASS. -European DVD/CD manufacturer Vivastar is planning to expand into the U.S. and Canadian mass market with a full line of storage media products. The company presently is finalizing negotiations for retail distribution in several mass-market categories.

Initial formats include CD-Rs in 650MB, 74-minute and 700MB, 80-minute, both 2x-16x compatible, and a CD-RW in 650MB, 74-minute, 1x-4x compatible.

For the high-end user, two CD-R Audio products-650MB, 74-minute and 700MB, 80-minute, both 1x-8x compatible-are being offered.

Vivastar's new DVD-R disk media will also be available in North America on or about March 1.

The Zug, Switzerland-based company, which is targeting office product, computer and consumer electronics superstores, will embark on a multimillion-dollar consumer promotional effort, using both broadcast and print media. A major brand campaign will launch on MTV is April, with TV spots accompanied by full-page print ads during the same period.
