LCoS HDTVs Top Philips' Fall Lineup

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 6/23/2003

As for new products slated for strong holiday sales, Philips again showed its new line of Cineos one-chip Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) rear-projection HDTV monitors.

It also announced that its proprietary "Pixel Plus" video processing system, which creates near HD-quality images from standard definition signal sources, has been extended into many MatchLine series video displays, including direct-view televisions, Cineos LCoS microdisplays, LCD TVs and a new e-box designed to link with Philips plasma displays.

In flat-panel TV news, Philips announced the expansion of its direct-view LCD TV lineup with the 17W-inch ($1,299 suggested retail), 23W-inch ($2,799, third quarter availability) and 30W-inch ($4,299, fourth quarter) 16:9 screen sizes.

In DVD recorders, the company is adding two models based on its DVD+R/+RW record disc format.

The DVDR80 is billed as the first recorder to have an 8-hour capability and a TV Guide On-Screen electronic program guide. The DVDR77 offers a Memory Card slot for JPEG still photos and music files recorded on multiple flash memory card formats. It will be capable of recording both video and still images onto one DVD disc.
