Gateway Opens Country Store In New York City

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 5/21/1999

Gateway this week entered the highly competitive New York City computer retail market when the cow-oriented manufacturer/direct dealer opened a Gateway Country Store on Manhattan's Columbus Circle.

The new location sports the chain's barnyard motif with pictures of cornfields on the walls and tractor-style seats in front of PC demonstrations, but is about half the size of a typical suburban Country Store. The store stocks Gateway's full line of desktop and notebook computers, along with a select number of printers, scanners and peripherals.

The store does not stock software but does contain a business solution center, a home theater room to display the Gateway Destination PC/TV and a children's computer center.

The store's grand opening is May 24. Gateway operates 161 Gateway Country Stores nationally.
