Noritsu Acquires Lucidiom

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 3/9/2009

Las Vegas - Noritsu will acquire kiosk-maker Lucidiom to bolster its lineup of retail printing solutions.

The company also unveiled several new retail printers at the PMA show, here, last week.

Lucidiom is expected to retain its staff and Vienna, Virginia headquarters, though terms of the deal were still being finalized. Noritsu made the move, in part, to bring Lucidiom’s toner-based print technology into the fold and round out the company’s retail print portfolio, said Larry Callan, Noritsu product marketing manager.

Noritsu also introduced a new inkjet based retail printer, the D703. The unit supports print sizes from 4 by 6-inch to 10 by 36-inch and double roll print processing, which lets retailers load different rolls of paper for multiple finishes, or double up the same paper type for greater volume.

The D703 will be joined by the D502 doubled sided inkjet printer, which in addition to standard prints can

The printer can be bundled with the NPB-1 EZ Photobook Binding System for producing soft cover photo books. The system can produce a bound book in roughly five minutes, Callan said. It will list for $8,000 or for $5,000 if bundled with the D502.

Joining the back-end printers will be the new CT-RS kiosk input terminal. It can be paired with two dye sub photo printers and features a new media card reader capable of rendering images three times faster than the previous version, along with the ability to preview RAW image files as thumbnails.
