Industry Turns Out For Home Theater Store Opening

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 8/21/2006

Some 60 vendors and suppliers helped Home Theater Store celebrate the opening of its eighth showroom last month.

The Houston-based A/V specialist, a member of the Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) buying group, opened its newest showroom near the Highland Park district here. The store continues the dealer's lifestyle approach to selling premium home theater, in which complete systems are showcased in stylishly furnished vignettes where everything, including the furniture, is for sale.

“Our new Dallas location follows the model we built three years ago in Southlake, Texas,” said CEO Mihir Mody. “This revolutionary solution model displays high-tech audio-video components and furnishings in fashion to provide an engaging and entertaining shopping experience.”

This latest showroom – the company's third in Dallas – capitalizes on the popularity of flat-panel TV and features a variety of high-end furniture, accessories and installation solutions from sister store Mody & Mody, including back-lit wall systems, component storage solutions and motorized lifts and wall-mounts. There is also a 60-inch projection screen that rises out of the footboard of a king-size bed to help customers envision the possibilities for their bedroom home theater.

“Our vision was to design an environment in which clients, architects, designers or custom builders can wander around the showroom to explore and find a perfect solution for their custom needs in [the] same manner as one would go to a decorative center to select fabrics or furniture of choice,” Mody said.

The Modys celebrated the opening with a special event for vendors and suppliers that included a cocktail reception, a visit to Mody & Mody, dinner, and a champagne toast at the new Home Theater Store showroom, where CE industry guests previewed the Mody family's latest retail expansion.

“We wanted our vendor partners to better understand how Home Theater Store built a model that is weaving technology into fashion and lifestyle to continue growth in an industry where price erosion is accelerating and technological differentiation is disappearing,” Mody said.
