Netgear Unveils Wi-Fi HD Bridge

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/8/2007

Netgear (South Hall 4, booth 36219), the IT networking device manufacturer, will use International CES to unveil its wireless Digital Entertainer HD media link product that will allow playing digital music, pictures and video (including high-definition) files from a PC on a connected TV.

Model EVA8000, which ships this month at a $349 suggested retail, will stream HD videos, music, Internet radio and digital photos from home PCs and storage devices to an HDTV, wirelessly.

The device will automatically find all the digital media files on a home network and organize them into an easily accessible library, Netgear said.

Features include easy setup using an onscreen TV wizard, HDMI/HDCP connectivity for HD video resolution up to 1,080i, and support for Windows Media Video 9 or MPEG-4 HD video file format.

The device will also support files protected with the Windows Media digital rights management (WMDRM10) to playback protected downloaded content from major online services. That action requires the use of Windows Media Connect (WMC) server software, which is included.

Also supported is multiroom playback using two or more Digital Entertainer HDs in different rooms. In Party mode, the capability will allow synchronized music playback throughout the house, in Follow Me mode, a user can pause a video in the living room, for example, and resume playing it in the bedroom or den.
