Verizon Adds PTT Phone

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 2/23/2009

Basking Ridge, N.J. — Verizon Wireless expanded its selection of push-to-talk (PTT) phones with the addition of the Verizon-branded CDM8975, developed by Personal Communications Devices.

The CDMA 1x EV-DO Rev. A phone is available through the carrier’s business channels, but beginning March 9, it will be available online at www.verizonwireless.com and in Verizon Wireless Communications stores. The price is $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and new two-year contract. The rebate takes the form of a debit card, which can be used at any business that accepts debit cards. Corporate discounts are available.

Subscribers with nationwide voice plans get unlimited PTT service for $5/month.

The CDM8975 features an internal antenna and supports VZ Navigator navigation service, Bluetooth, 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, video recording, memory card slot for optional 8GB MicroSD card, and compatibility with  Verizon’s V CAST Music and V CAST Video services.

The 3.2-ounce device features a PTT phonebook with up to 500 individual contacts and up to 100 group contacts with up to 50 members per group.
