CES 2009: Casio Demonstrates New Digicam Technologies

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 1/7/2009

Las Vegas — Casio will introduce a new composite moving image technology in 2009 that will let photographers create motion elements that can be applied to a variety of still backgrounds.

The technology was demonstrated by Casio founder and CEO Kazuo Kashio during the company’s International CES press conference, here.

Kashio snapped two images, one of a model moving her arms forward, the other of a blank background. Armed with that data and software, the moving model can be isolated from the background and applied to different ones.

The company also previewed several new digital cameras designed to bring the high-speed image capture technology introduced last year to compact consumer cameras. The new models will offer 30 fps burst modes and a new slow-motion view that will let consumers view a slow-motion preview of live action on the camera’s LCD. The technology will let consumers capture the precise moment they were shooting for even as the action unfolds in front of them in real time, said Bill Heuer, digital imaging VP.

The company will also leverage its high-speed burst mode to eliminate blur from images taken at maximum zoom or at night. The cameras can snap multiple images and render them to create a single, non-blurry one.
