Epson Boosts Speed of Entry-Level Inkjets

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson is shipping four new C-series inkjet printers and all-in-ones to dealers this month, offering quicker print speeds.
The Stylus CX7400, for an estimated $69, is an all-in-one capable of producing color and black-and-white documents at 28 ppm. It can also print borderless 4-inch by 6-inch photos in draft mode using Epson paper.
It incorporates the DX3 print head initially introduced on the company’s high-end graphics printers and uses the firm’s DuraBrite ink set. The all-in-one features automatic photo correction and image sharpening.
The Stylus C120 ($89) is a stand-alone inkjet printer with a pair of black-ink cartridges to achieve text speeds of 37 ppm black and 20 ppm color. It will also offer “laser quality” black text at 25 ppm, Epson said.

The printer supports borderless photo printing up to letter-sized prints and uses individual ink tanks. A “quiet mode” reduces printer noise when in operation.
For $99, Epson will ship the CX8400 featuring a 2.5-inch LCD, 32ppm black- and color-text print speeds and the DX3 technology. It will offer card slots, one-touch copying, and the ability to print a 4- by 6-inch photo in roughly 26 seconds. The CX8400 also features automatic photo correction and is bundled with the firm’s Easy Photo Fix software.
The top-of-the-line CX9400Fax, for $149, carries many of the same features of the CX8400 with the addition of a 33.6Kbps fax modem.
