Micro USB Cables Bow

Groveport, Ohio — StarTech.com is shipping a new line of Micro USB cables in 3-foot, 6-foot and 10-foot lengths.

A Micro USB connector is roughly half the physical thickness of a Mini USB connector, which will assist manufacturers in the design of thinner and lighter portable devices, going forward, the company said.

"This technology provides a very convenient solution for mobile device users", said Keith Rodrigues, product manager, by allowing the same Micro USB cable to be used among smartphones and mobile phones. "Micro USB is a major step forward for mobile users in that file transfers, data synchronization and charging capability could all be provided by a single cable," said Rodrigues.

"Micro USB technology has been receiving much deserved publicity lately," said Rodrigues, referring to the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) recommendation from September 2007 that mobile device manufacturers adapt Micro USB as a standard connection. The OMTP is currently comprised of nine full members including AT&T, Orange, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telenor, T-Mobile and Vodafone, and is sponsored by Ericsson, Nokia and SanDisk.
