Crutchfield Corp. announced initial results from a study of XM buyers that found 78 percent of respondents reported sound quality as "excellent," 59 percent reported using XM was "very easy" and 32 percent said using XM was "easy."

Crutchfield, which says it regularly conducts consumer research on new technologies, randomly surveyed 202 XM buyers. The survey found that 90 percent of Crutchfield XM buyers are male with 42 percent reporting household incomes of more than $100K. Most buyers were evenly spread out in age between 25 and 54 with 25 percent of respondents in each of the age ranges 25-34, 35-44, and 45-54.

Crutchfield said most XM buyers were white-collar professionals. Frequently listed occupations included doctor, lawyer, consultant, engineer and programmer. The technology is also popular among truck drivers, Crutchfield said. Forty percent of the surveyed customers were new Crutchfield customers.
