Sony Debuts Digital8 Video Walkman VCR

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -Sony Electronics announced two portable hybrid digital/analog VCRs based on the Digital8 camcorder tape format.

The D8 Video Walkman VCRs, GV-D200 and GV-D800, are designed to offer portable playback of analog 8mm videos, as well as videos made in the digital 8mm format. Both models are fashioned in the compact Video Walkman style.Both the GV-D200 ($700 suggested retail price) and GV-D800 ($900) models will be available in late November and incorporate the i.LINK (IEEE-1394) digital video interface, which provides a seamless digital link between the Digital8 Video Walkman units and most IEEE-1394 digital-video-enabled camcorders, digital VCRs or PCs.

The step-up GV-D800 includes a 4-inch color LCD screen and built-in speakers. Both can be powered with an optional Infolithium battery with "Accupower Meter" for up to 13 hours of playback.

The Digital8 Video Walkman VCRs are also fully functional playback and record decks, so videos can be viewed and enjoyed with any TV.
