IOGear Intros Nano Coating PC Accessories

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 3/26/2007

IOGear has rolled out a series of computer peripherals featuring its Nano coating technology.

The special Nano coating reportedly contains antimicrobial properties built in to protect the product from bacteria surviving on its surface. Products are coated with a titanium dioxide and silver nano-particle compound. The coating uses two mechanisms to deactivate enzymes and proteins of bacteria from surviving on the surface of the product, according to the company.

Its wireless laser mouse with Nano coating technology is designed as an excellent tool for medical offices, libraries and schools as well as for mobile professionals, gamers and desktop users. It uses VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) as the light source, which provides 28 times more tracking power than mice using an optical sensor, said IOGear. VCSEL allows the mouse to work on virtually any surface, even glass, and provides a resolution of 1,600 dpi, The mouse is USB ready, plug-and-play and hot pluggable. It provides a 6 feet wireless range and has a $39.95 suggested retail.

IOGear is also offering a laser travel mouse with the technology for a $39.95 suggested retail.

Other products featuring the Nano coating technology include the company's wireless keyboard/mouse combination with wireless connectivity up to 6 feet away from the USB receiver connected to a computer for a suggested retail of $59.95. It offers 800 dpi resolution and has an ultra-thin, lightweight keyboard with various hotkeys. The hotkeys give users quick access to such tasks as e-mail access, volume control, play/pause a CD, launching My Computer, Calcualtor, Media Player and a Web browser. In addition, the included software is designed to make Web surfing more efficient with the use of enhanced function keys.

Finally, IOGear is offering a long-range wireless keyboard and mouse combo with the Nano coating technology for a $99.95 suggested retail. The 2.4GHz RF ultra-range multimedia keyboard and optical mouse enables users to work up to 33 feet away from a computer. The optical mouse has 800 dpi resolution, and the keyboard is meant to provide better tactile feeling and less pressure on fingers and wrists. The combination is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth friendly, and is able to perform frequency hopping to avoid interference.
