Feb. Digital TVSales Rise 83%

ARLINGTON, VA — Factory sales of digital television displays grew 83 percent in February over the same month last year, according to figures just released by the Consumer Electronics Association.
Total sales of 133,764 DTV units in February, represent factory dollar sales of more than $242 million, according to CEA.
The combined unit sales for the first two months of the year is 283,055, which CEA said has already surpassed the total volume for the entire first quarter of 2001.
Meanwhile, CEA revised its full-year 2001 sales-to-dealer figures for DTV stand-alone set-top boxes and integrated DTV sets due to changes in sales figures previously submitted by reporting companies. CEA now says sales of set-top DTV decoders were up 251 percent over 2000, at the newly posted 128,845-unit number. Unit sales of integrated sets were revised to 70,295 — a 1,025 percent increase over 2000. The total 2001 DTV product figure remains unchanged at 1,459,731 units on sales of more than $2.6 billion.
CEA said 14 percent of the DTV monitors and sets sold in 2001 are capable of receiving, decoding and displaying an ATSC digital signal either on their own or partnered with a set-top box.
