FCC's Martin Comments On XM/Sirius Merger
By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 3/21/2008
Washington — Kevin Martin, Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) Chairman, said he had asked the agency's staff to put together draft documents outlining different possible decisions the agency might reach on the Sirius/XM, according to a Reuters report.
Martin said the agency is moving closer to reaching a decision on the possible merger of Sirius and XM, although Martin reportedly said he had not made a decision.
From Reuters: “I haven't decided what I'm going to end up doing on it. I think that (FCC staff) will have various cuts and options as a part of it, but I haven't decided yet,” said Martin.

Oh, c''mon already. The merger was initiated over a year ago and it still hasn''t been approved. Way too many layers of government, NAB, and others blocking this thing. Over 200 other mergers and acquistions have been approved in the past year.
What''s going on here? Approve the merger and let''s move on!!

This has been dangled in front of us now for over a year. The merge will actually be a good thing, and the FCC and DOJ are doing no one any good by dragging this thing out. Satellite radio fills a niche that terrestrial radio can't. A merged provider can offer even more options than a single one can. So what are we waiting for?
