Chair Synchronizes Music With Massage

Staff -- TWICE, 2/7/2005

Called the world's first massage chair to synchronize music and sound generated from a home theater unit, the Inada Chair W.1 is said to take a home theater experience to the next level by synchronizing a user's audio/visual experience with a dynamic custom massage. The home theater unit includes DVD, television, VHS and CD use.

The Japanese chair, made by Family Inada, a U.S. subsidiary of Japan's massage chair maker, comes with a synchronizer package that includes amplifier and speaker headrest, which connects to the W.1 chair with the home theater unit. The massage is keyed to the music and sound, with seat vibration accompanying sounds in the bass range, tapping and back vibration for the treble range and leg vibration in the midrange. Bass and treble levels can be adjusted

The program can sense variations in rhythm and melody, as well as volume. Sensitivity of massage synchronization can also be adjusted to the audio. The program, said the company, is designed to enhance the sensory experience of a massage for deeper mental reflection. Suggested retail is $4,500.
