Circuit City Picks Schoonover As Its New Chairman

Phil Schoonover has been elected chairman of Circuit City Stores succeeding Alan McCollough, who retired from the board last Tuesday following the company's annual meeting of shareholders.

Schoonover, 46, joined the company in 2004 as executive VP and chief merchandising officer. He was named president in February 2005, elected to the board in December 2005 and named CEO in March 2006.

Before joining the company, Schoonover held a variety of executive positions at Best Buy since joining that chain in 1995. Prior to that Schoonover was executive VP at Tops Appliance City, the New York metro retailer that closed in the 1990s. Prior to Tops, Schoonover he held senior sales and marketing positions with Sony.
