Audiovox Plans To Ship First Four-Way Overhead Monitor

Hauppauge, NY — Audiovox said it plans to launch a broad array of mobile video products in the second half, particularly in the newly popular 10-inch screen size.
The company plans to offer a series of the first four-way overhead monitor/DVDs. These may be removed from the car for use in the home or as a portable. The monitor is essentially a "tablet DVD" with a side-mounted DVD slot that can snap into an overhead monitor car pod, a kitchen on-the-counter bracket or an under-the-counter bracket. The tablet DVD can also snap into a battery pack for use as a portable DVD player.
The new transportable series will come in 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch screen sizes. Audiovox said the monitor will incorporate new TV Guardian software, which eliminates foul language. Shipping is expected in November, said Tom Malone, senior VP mobile electronics group.
In September, Audiovox will ship a flagship line of 10.2-inch drop-down monitor/DVDs, all of which may be upgraded with a snap-on TV tuner, said Malone.
Also in the second half, Audiovox, and its division, Jensen, will each deliver their first fully motorized
in-dash DVD/monitors, Malone said. The Audiovox version is the PAV-2000DTV with a TV tuner, MP3 and built in 50-watt-by-4 and 2-watt-by-2 power. It also includes a Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS processor and 7-inch motorized screen with 5-step tilt adjustment.
