New iPaqs Provide Security

Hewlett-Packard introduced a new series of iPaq handheld Pocket PCs with advanced security features, including fingerprint scan.

The new hx2000 series, expected to sell mainly into corporate environments, is available in three configurations, including the top-end hx2700 with a biometric fingerprint reader. All of the new models also offer new encryption software. The units are available at speeds of 312 MHz, 520 MHz or 624, based on the Intel PXA270 processor with up to 128 MB ROM and up to 128 MB RAM. They offer Wi-Fi (802.11b) on select models and integrated Bluetooth on all models. Also included is software for automatic back up of applications and data. The display for the hx2000 series is a 3.5-inch QVGA TFT screen with 64K colors.

The new hx2000 series is available in December in good, better and best configurations called the hx2100, hx2400 and the hx2700, at prices of $349, $449 and $549, respectively.
