Dish Adds Enhanced TV Converter Box

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/25/2008

Englewood, Colo. — EchoStar’s Dish Network said it is now shipping its second digital TV converter featuring an enhanced tuner that is said to be optimized for weak signal areas.

Called the DTVPal Plus, the next-generation digital-to-analog converter box carries a $69.99 suggested retail and is eligible for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) $40 coupon, making it $29.99 out of pocket. It includes all of the features of the earlier DTVPal.

Consumers interested in acquiring the government funded TV converter box coupon can visit www.dtv2009.gov.

The box features an analog pass-through feature that will enable consumers to watch the several hundred low-power analog TV stations that will continue to operate after the Feb. 17, 2009, analog TV shut-off.

Other features include an easy setup wizard, an electronic program guide with up to seven days of program listings, parental controls, program search, auto tune timers for program recording on a connected VCR, closed caption support, a remote control and signal strength screen pop-ups that can troubleshoot lost signals.

Dish Network also reminds consumers that they can continue receiving TV programming after the shut-off by subscribing to Dish Network satellite TV service. Low-cost service options include Dish Network American and Latino Welcome Packs featuring 20 popular channels for less than $10/month, or $19.99/month (plus an additional $5 for local channels) for the DishFamily package that includes more than 40 popular channels, plus free installation and activation.

Consumers interested in ordering Dish Network service can visit www.dishnetwork.com or call (800) 333-DISH.

More information on the DTVPal Plus product is available at www.dtvpal.com or by calling (888) 638-9912.
