99-Cent iPhones At 99 Cent Store

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 8/20/2007

99 Cent Only Stores marked its 25th anniversary earlier this month by selling nine iPhones for 99 cents.

The one-day offer was limited to the first nine customers to turn up at the discounter's original location on La Tijera Boulevard, here in the Westchester section.

The event was intended to underscore the dollar chain's 25-year history of never carrying a price point over 99 cents.

Founded in 1982 by chairman Dave Gold, 99 Cent Only Stores operates 253 locations throughout California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada under the slogan "Where nothing is over 99 cents, ever!" The deep discounter says it is the nation's oldest existing one-price retailer.
