Fujitsu Previews AVIAMO

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/9/2006

Fujitsu General America used CEDIA Expo to give A/V specialty retailers and custom installers a sneak peek at a new step-up high-end flat-panel TV line that is slated for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2007.

The new line, called AVIAMO, is currently expected to include a pair a of plasma displays in the 50W- and 65W-inch screen sizes and a 37W-inch LCD TV model. All will feature 1,920 by 1,080 progressive “full HD” resolution.

The trio will incorporate ATSC/NTSC tuning, but whether or not they will include version 1.3 HDMI inputs or the older 1.2 version, has not been determined at this time, according to a company spokesman.

Fujitsu used the services of a Japanese designer to come up with the new sleek Euro-style bezels for the line, the spokesman said. The company is considering offering two color options, including piano black and off white.

The 37W-inch LCD TV, which is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of around $7,000, will have built-in speakers, but the company was still deciding on the speaker arrangements for the plasma models.

The 50W-inch models are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of about $15,000 and the 65W-inch model should see a suggested retail price of about $20,000 when it ships in the first quarter, the spokesman said.

The line will be distributed as a step-up to the company's Plasmavision models, but will be open to all of Fujitsu's current selective specialty A/V and custom installation dealer base.

Fujitsu will give the AVIAMO line a formal send off at International CES in January, when exact specs and pricing will be set, the spokesman said.
