Flashes Of Color, Ergonomic Advances Highlight K/BIS

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 5/23/2005

After years of white, black and, more recently, stainless, color is finally making its way back into kitchens, as evidenced by the roster of fanciful product introductions at this month's Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (K/BIS).

Influenced perhaps by the new metallic neutrals of Apple's ubiquitous iPod, or the pale retro palettes now finding favor in the automotive and home furnishings industries, majap makers are following KitchenAid's lead in countertop appliances and Sears' bold move into burnished tones with colorful finishes of their own.

At the same time, marketers, designers and engineers have become increasingly cognizant of their aging customer base and are developing ergonomically accommodating products that are both easy on the eyes and the back.

Highlighted here are a handful of show standouts. Comprehensive coverage of new product introductions from K/BIS will appear in the June 6 issue.
