Diamond Bar, Calif. — Advanced Media, distributor of Ridata-brand recordable CD and DVD media, is adding an inkjet-printable, double-layer DVD+R disc to its product lineup. The single-side disc, called DL Printable, offers 8.5GB of storage capacity, enough for four hours of DVD-quality video, 16 hours of VHS-quality video or over 120 hours of MP3 audio.
Called by Ridata the largest storage capacity currently available on one DVD disc, with professional quality labeling, the product allows users to read, write or store nearly twice the amount of data than they can with a single-layer 4.7GB disc without having to flip sides or change discs.
Material can be either read or recorded on one layer without affecting material on the other layer. When data is being recorded or read, it does so continuously from the first layer to the second without interruption. It records at speeds of 1x to 2.4x.
The new Ridata printable double-layer disc is compatible with current DVD video players, DVD game consoles and DVD-ROM drives, as well as new DVD+R DL drives. It may be used with virtually any available disc printer.
Suggested retail for DL Printable discs is $199 for a 25-pack. The product currently is available through limited retail distribution.
Along with its new double-layer inkjet printable disc, Ridata offers 4x and 8x single-layer inkjet-printable DVD+/-R discs.
Advanced Media is a subsidiary of the optical media maker Ritek.
