GE Scores With Triton D/W
In its first six weeks of production, GE Appliances' new Triton dishwasher was selling at a pace that called for a doubling of projected manufacturing rates, according to the company. "The marketplace is responding beyond our expectations," said Jerry Burris, product general manager for dishwashers. Sales of the dishwasher -- the first to be designed using GE's Six Sigma quality and innovation process -- began last month and are said to be running 20% ahead of plan. The Triton, which GE describes as "the quietest dishwasher in the U.S.," is offered in the company's GE Profile and Profile Performance Series, at an estimated retail price in the $399-$699 range.
Sears In Web Sweepstakes
Sears is promoting its new Kenmore Elite high-end appliance line with a new Dream Kitchen sweepstakes being conducted over its Sears.com Web site. Through December 31 consumers who visit Sears' e-commerce site can register to win a Kenmore Elite refrigerator, range and dishwasher, plus $10,000. Three grand-prize winners will be selected in drawings to be held on October 30, November 30 and January 6.
Viking Lab Accredited For Testing
Viking Range can now test its own products for approvals from the American Gas Association, Canadian Gas Association and Canadian Standards Association, following accreditation of its appliance test lab by International Approval Services. Accreditation of the lab, located at Viking's cooking products plant in Greenwood, Miss., means the company will be able to obtain agency approvals for its appliances faster than firms that must send their products to outside testing labs, according to Viking.
Frigidaire Links With Tufts' Gourmet Program
Frigidaire Home Products is sponsoring a new Gourmet Engineering program at Tufts University. The program, for first-year engineering students, uses top-of-the-line Frigidaire electric ranges, microwave ovens and refrigerators to learn theories of heat transfer by preparing food and conducting experiments. "In this Gourmet Engineering lab today may be the engineer of tomorrow who will revolutionize family living, in an American kitchen or in a NASA space station," said Jay Penney, Frigidaire Home Products' appliance sales and marketing VP.
