Samsung Appoints Weedfald Sr. VP

Staff -- TWICE, 3/7/2005

Samsung Electronics America has named Peter Weedfald senior VP/sales and marketing for the consumer electronics division.

In his new role, Weedfald leads all branding, marketing and sales initiatives for Samsung’s consumer electronics division, which includes such products as HDTVs, camcorders, DVD players, digital audio products, home appliances and set-top boxes.

Weedfald, who joined the company in 2001, will also continue his current responsibility as senior VP of North America’s strategic marketing team, overseeing the company’s strategic marketing direction and assets. “The dual role is designed to increase the company’s global competitiveness, and promote even greater strategic operation and sales and marketing synergy,” according to a company statement.

Among the programs Weedfald has been responsible for during his four-year tenure at the company include a national 24/7, interactive network of 425 top-rated Web sites that generates more than 1.5 billion impressions a month featuring Samsung ads and promotions; a major national North American advertising and branding campaign; and a comprehensive CRM initiative.

He also established Samsung’s Four Season’s of Hope, a corporate goodwill campaign that teams top superstars of sports and music, such as Magic Johnson, Arnold Palmer, Joe Torre, Boomer Esiason and Jon Bon Jovi, with leading retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA and Sears, to raise money for charities associated with the superstars. To date, the effort has raised over $4 million.

Before joining Samsung, Weedfald was corporate executive VP as well as GM of Web appliances at ViewSonic where he spearheaded the worldwide product management, marketing communications, strategic partnerships and Web-based product sales efforts.

Prior to that, he was with Ziff-Davis Publishing for nine years in various executive publisher positions over such magazines and Web sites as Computer Shopper, Windows Sources, PC Magazine, MacUser, PC Week and others.
