Pixa Bows $1,999 30W" LCD TV

PLEASANTON, CALIF. — Pixa said it has introduced "the market's first 30W-inch LCD flat-screen TV priced under $2,000," and a DVD player that is capable of playing back movies downloaded from the Internet in the DivX (MPEG-4) compression scheme.
The Pixa 30W-inch LCD TV LT-300S is being offered at a $1,999 suggested retail, which the company said represents a savings of $1,000 or more over many comparably sized models from its competitors.
Panel resolution is listed as 1,280-by-768 WXGA high definition. It has a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and a 170-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle.
Two detachable 10-watt stereo speakers are included, with optional wireless speakers, a wall mount bracket and an electronic PLL tuner available at additional cost.
Video inputs include a DVI-HDTV interface, permitting connection to a DVI set-top box for a full digital uncompressed high-definition signal, plus SGA, video, S-Video and other standard connectors. The system is NTSC, PAL and SECAM-compatible and supports HDTV 480i, 480p, 720p and 1,080i.
The DVD player, which is sold under the DVOne brand, is model DX-8020 and carries a $79.99 suggested retail. It will play all standard DVD and CD media, including audio CDs, home-burned CD-R/RWs and MP3 audio files as well as DVD video, JPEG-based picture CDs, and TV shows or digital camcorder images stored on DVD+R/+RW or -R/-RW discs.
Pixa said the DivX support extends to files encoded in DivX versions 3.11, 4.x and 5.x. This allows consumers to play back their downloaded movies and video clips with near-DVD quality on a TV or a home theater system instead of a PC.
The product will output progressive scan or interlaced DVD signals and offers DVD-Audio capability for multi-channel music playback.
