Creative Shows External Sound Card, New Speakers

Creative Labs is unveiling new products in its SoundBlaster and Cambridge Sound-works lines at CES this week.

The company's flagship product for the show is the SoundBlaster Extigy, its first external SoundBlaster product for the notebook computer market. The device is an external sound card enabling notebooks to have the same full 5.1 channel Dolby Digital decoding for movies that is available in a PC. PC owners can also utilize the Extigy if they do not wish to install an internal card. It is shipping later this month, the Extigy will carry a $199 suggested retail price.

In the multimedia speaker category, Creative is showing the MegaWorks 510D the company's most powerful speaker system to date. The 510D features 500 watts of total power through its 5.1 channels and when combined with Creative Labs Audigy sound card the speakers deliver 24-bit 96KHz clarity through all channels. It will ship in late January with a $399 suggested retail price.
