Sony Delays Blu-ray Deck

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 7/3/2006

Sony said it has delayed the delivery of its BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc player from July until “the fall,” citing “software issues.”

A Sony spokesperson said that the delay is related only to the BDP-S1 ($1,000 suggested retail), and does not affect other Sony Blu-ray products including its PlayStation 3 gaming consoles with Blu-ray drives or Blu-ray-enabled Vaio PCs.

The SonyStyle Web site indicates the player now will be available for delivery direct to consumers on Oct. 25, but the spokesperson indicated that date applies only to SonyStyle, and not to all of Sony's retail partners.
