D&H Goes International

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 7/9/2007

Mississauga, Ontario — D&H Distributing is opening a 38,000 square foot warehouse here today; the company’s first outside of the United States. This new location is the company’s sixth in North America.

The launch of D&H Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of D&H distributing, is expected to yield more than 1,000 new customers for D&H’s North American base, according to a release.

D&H Canada will be overseen by Greg Tobin, formerly of Ingram Micro Canada and Motorola Canada, who will be the general manager. Paul McIlhenny, an 18-year D&H veteran, will be responsible for managing and developing inside sales and customer service teams for the new territory.

“The potential for D&H in Canada is significant,” said Tobin. “We plan to leverage the company’s deep services and its agility at serving different verticals to quickly make an impact on the market. The Canadian channel will welcome D&H as a customer-oriented distribution partner with the savvy and logistical power of an industry leader, yet with the personalized support you might otherwise expect from your local consultant.”

The company estimated that the total wholesale IT distribution market in Canada is a $6.2 billion opportunity “in addition to potential sales in the consumer electronics, retail/etail, education and other Canadian vertical markets.”

D&H said that in the U.S. it has had a growth rate of at least 15 percent per year for the past seven years and that it plans to continue domestic growth through “results-oriented service” while it also develops its Canadian business.

According to a release, D&H was motivated to expand because of “various requests from both Canadian resellers and manufacturer partners who serve (or want to serve) the Canadian marketplace” and who wanted to take advantage of the company’s services. The company also said that some of its current partners had asked the distributor to “help them penetrate new markets in Canada as well.”

Its partners in Canada will include Acer, Brother, Creative Labs, Linksys, Logitech, ViewSonic and more.
