Directed Offers Remote Start For Standard Shifts

By Staff -- TWICE, 10/8/2007

Leading car security supplier Directed is introducing its first remote-start system for manual-transmission vehicles.

The company is now shipping a 689M Neutral Safety module that may be added to any traditional remote-start system so that it may be adapted to a standard-shift vehicle.

Several other suppliers offer manual transmission remote-start solutions, but Directed said it is entering the market now because "we have achieved a technically sophisticated solution," said a spokesman.

To adapt remote start to a manual transmission, the user engages the remote start before he exits the vehicle. Then, when he turns off the remote start and locks the doors with the remote, the vehicle knows it's safe to remote start next time.

The 689M has a suggested retail of $99.
