TiVo Revenue Up, Net Down During 1-Month Transition

SAN JOSE, CALIF. —TiVo, as part of the company's decision to change its fiscal year to a Jan. 31 year-end from a Dec. 31 year-end, said revenue for the one-month period ending Jan. 31, 2001 increased 638 percent to $989,000, compared with $134,000 in the same month last year. Net loss for this transition period was $19 million, compared with $8.8 million the same month in 2000. Revenue for the 12-month period ending Jan. 31 was $4.7 million, compared with $357,000 for the 12-month period ending in January of 2000. Net loss for the 12 months ending Jan. 31 was $216.6 million, compared with a net loss of $73.5 million in the year-ago period. During January, TiVo activated about 18,000 new subscribers, bringing the total subscriber base to about 154,000.

iMagicTV Reports Higher Q4 Sales, Lower Profit

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK —Fourth-quarter revenue, excluding equipment sales, at iMagicTV climbed 318 percent to $3.2 million, compared with $765,000 in the same three months last year. Revenue excluding equipment sales for the 12 months ended Feb. 28 was $7.8 million, a 333 percent rise over the $1.8 million reported in the year-ago 12-month period. Canada-based iMagicTV, which provides software products and related services that enable telephone companies and other service providers to deliver multichannel digital TV and interactive media services to subscribers over a broadband network infrastructure, recorded a net loss of $3.1 million for the fiscal fourth quarter, down from a net loss of $1.7 million in the year-ago three months. The loss, excluding non-cash, stock-based compensation charges, reached $10.9 million for the 12 months, nearly doubling the net loss of $5.6 million, registered in the previous fiscal year.

Home Depot Net Earnings Decline 20% in Fiscal Q4

ATLANTA —Fueled by economic uncertainty that it said has put tremendous pressure on consumer spending, Home Depot reported a decline of 20 percent in net earnings for the fiscal fourth quarter ended Jan. 28. Net earnings were $465 million in the three months, compared with $578 million in the year-ago period. Net earnings for the year, however, rose 11 percent, to $2.6 billion, up from $2.3 billion in fiscal 1999. Net sales for the fourth quarter increased 14 percent to $10.5 billion, up from $9.2 billion in the year-ago three months. For the year, net sales climbed 19 percent to $45.7 billion, compared with $38.4 billion last year. Comp-store sales for the fourth quarter were flat, but enjoyed a 4 percent increase for the year.
