PlayStation 2 Coming In Fall 2000

By TWICE staff -- TWICE, 9/14/1999

Sony reported yesterday it will start shipping the PlayStation 2 game console to the U.S. market in fall 2000.

The announcement came several days after Sega launched its next-generation Dreamcast console, which generated almost $100 million in sales the day it was launched.

The PlayStation 2 will hit the Japanese market in March 2000, where it is expected to carry a $360 suggested retail price. U.S. pricing has not been established. Like the Dreamcast, the PlayStation 2 uses a 128-bit processor, has a DVD-ROM drive and a modem for Internet play.

Nintendo is also expected to launch an upgraded game console next year, but the company has not released any details.
