Alltel Upgrades Calling-Group Plans

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 3/26/2009

Little Rock, Ark. — Alltel upgraded its My Circle calling-group plans without boosting the price to deliver unlimited calling to up to 15 or 25 wireless and landline numbers.

MyCircle previously was limited to a choice of up to 10 or 20 numbers.

The change puts further distance between Alltel’s calling-group plans and those offered by T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. T-Mobile’s My Faves plans are limited to a maximum of five numbers, and Verizon Wireless’ recently launched Friends & Family plan lets subscribers create a calling group of up to five or 10 numbers.

“Already one of the most cost-effective calling plans in the industry, Alltel is transforming My Circle into an even more robust, more flexible and more cost-effective calling feature by providing an additional five numbers to customers on My Circle 10 and My Circle 20 calling plans for free,” a spokesman said.

Verizon Wireless bought Alltel in January, but in the 105 markets where Verizon and Alltel compete, Alltel is continuing to run things until Verizon, under mandate by federal regulators, sells off the 105-market operation, which markets service under the Alltel brand in 22 states nationwide with 2.2 million customers.
