Blueprint Symbols Arrive

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Bedrock Learning teamed up to create TechHome Symbols that architects, designers, builders and electronic systems contractors (ESCs) can use in blueprints to visually show where various home technologies should be installed.

The symbols represent common categories of wired electronics including audio, communication, data and video, controlled devices, central vacuum, surge suppression, lighting and security.

TechHome Symbols will ensure accurate placement of installed technology within a home, said John Tunnell, CEA member relations VP. "By having one simple resource for these symbols, CEA is giving all parties involved a vital tool in building the digital home."

"Having the symbol files available on CD or for download on the Internet provides easy access," said Helen Heneveld, president of Bedrock Learning, a home-technology training company.

2 Create Standards Group

Arlington, Va. — CEA and CEDIA jointly launched a new standards committee, the R10 Residential Systems committee, to establish bulletins and standards for the design and installation of residential systems.

The committee's first project will be revising the ANSI/CEA-2030 Multiroom Audio Cabling Standard, which provides a blueprint for adding multiroom distributed audio to homes as well as ample graphics and charts with suggested set-ups. The group will also work on CEA/CEDIA Home Theater Recommended Practice: Audio Design.

Said Dave Pedigo, CEDIA's senior director of technology, "The combination of CEA's years of experience in writing standards and bulletins and the knowledge of CEDIA's Technology Council grants the committee a strong foundation for both CEDIA and CEA members to benefit."
