New Technology
By TWICE staff -- TWICE, 7/12/1999
This issue of TWICE is a departure for us because we are a news-driven publication and not one that usually engages in sales training or instruction. Yet with all the dramatic changes in the products you sell in your stores, we felt a departure was in order.
Of course "new technology" is the mother's milk to every industry we cover. But with the onslaught of digital technology, and convergence finally reaching retail shelves, the time is right to present this special issue.
New Technology -- A TWICE Primer is not an attempt to replace sales training efforts that your store, your vendors and the industry are conducting. We hope it is a compendium of information on the existing and new product categories in consumer electronics, computers, communications and appliances, which have undergone changes during the past couple of years.
Along with descriptions of these changing product categories we have included a glossary of new terms you will have to familiarize yourself with as the digital revolution becomes a part of everyday life.
If this report serves any purpose it should indicate to everyone that whether you're an audio buyer, a communications specialist or a GMM of a major chain, you're not alone. There is dramatic, and profitable, change that is going on across all categories. To cash in you have to understand what the products are, what they can do, and how to sell them profitably. -- Steve Smith
