Alpine Exits Circuit City

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 9/20/2004

Circuit City confirmed that Alpine has stopped selling its car audio line to the chain, after a ten-year partnership.

A spokesman for Circuit City said, “Alpine and Circuit City have decided to go their separate ways.” He added that Alpine's line will be phased out through the end of the year and the “the parting is amicable.”

Circuit City would not say if it would replace the line.

In the past year, the retail giant began offering its own brands of car audio and video called Verge, Esa and Liquid Video. The spokesman said of the brand strategy:“It's too early to make any statements on how well they are doing.”

Alpine said it is not ready to comment on alternative plans for the line.
