Nintendo's Launch Of GameCube Is Stalled 2 Weeks

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 9/3/2001

Nintendo will delay the launch of its much-anticipated GameCube console by two weeks to Nov. 18, the company reported last week.

Nintendo executives said the decision was made to ensure enough product was on hand for a smooth roll out of the device. The new launch date means the GameCube will hit stores after Microsoft's Xbox. Originally, the two devices were slated for a simultaneous launch. The GameCube Japan launch remains on schedule with the first product reaching stores on Sept. 14.

Despite the announcement, Nintendo expects to reach its goal of shipping 4 million units by March 31.
