Nikon Intros D3X d-SLR

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 12/1/2008

Melville, N.Y. — Nikon said it would ship a successor to its high-end D3 d-SLR — the D3X — to dealers in December.

The 24.5-megapixel camera features a full-frame, FX-format sensor; a 5 fps burst mode at full resolution; and

the ability to shoot either 12- or 14-bit JPEG, TIFF or RAW files in compressed or uncompressed formats. If paired with a DX format lens, the D3x can capture 10-megapixel images at 7 fps.

The D3X offers a 3-inch LCD; a viewfinder with 100 percent coverage; an ISO 100 to 1600, which can be expanded to 50 to 6400; a 0.12-second start-up time, two live-view modes; and a shutter release time lag of 0.04 seconds.

It incorporates an updated version of the company’s Expeed image-processing system for faster processing and Nikon’s scene-recognition system, which employs an RGB light sensor to monitor the scene to improve auto exposure, auto white balance and autofocus calculations. It also features the focus module (Multi-Cam 3500FX) found on the D3, with 51 autofocus points, 15 cross type sensors and 36 horizontal sensors.

The D3X will join the D3 in the market and retail for $7,999.
