Sharper Image Signs Licensing Deal With OfficeMax

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 3/29/2007

San Francisco — Sharper Image’s recently formed brand licensing division has produced its first partnership.

A multiyear licensing agreement with OfficeMax will allow the office supply retailer to carry exclusive Sharper Image-branded office furniture and accessories.

According to Sharper Image, the first collection is rolling out in OfficeMax stores now, and additional collections will follow throughout the rest of the year. The products will include desks, chairs, shredders, desk sets and accessories.

“The agreement with OfficeMax presents Sharper Image with an opportunity to expand our access to a large and loyal consumer base,” said John Spotts, Sharper Image’s brand licensing senior VP.

In other Sharper Image news, the retailer will exclusively market and sell seats on Zero Gravity Corp. (ZERO-G) public flights. According to a release, ZERO-G is the “first and only FAA-approved provider of commercial weightless flights,” and its flights are said to be “the only commercial opportunity on Earth for individuals to experience true ‘weightlessness’ without going into space.”

A ZERO-G experience is based on the flights used to train NASA astronauts. It is said to consist of a brief training session followed by a 90-minute flight where parabolic maneuvers to simulate the feeling of weightlessness for the passengers are performed. ZERO-G passengers will have the chance to experience Martian gravity, lunar gravity and zero gravity.

Beginning May 15, interested parties can reserve seats through Sharper Image at one of its stores, through its catalog or at the retailer’s Web site. The flights depart regularly from Las Vegas and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. For more information on flight schedules, visit GoZeroG.
