Pentax Adds Optios Digital Cameras

Golden, Colo. — Pentax will ship a pair of sub-$200 digital cameras to dealers in August and September, the company announced this week.
Due next month, the 8-megapixel Optio M40 features a 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD screen, 17 scene modes, face detection and a digital stabilization that boosts the camera’s ISO to 3200 and quickens the shutter. In automatic, the camera can achieve light sensitivities to ISO 1600.
The M40, which will retail for a suggested $199, records VGA resolution videos at 30 fps with digital shake reduction.

In September the company will ship the E40. The model also offers facial recognition and digital stabilization. It accepts AA batteries and features a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.4-inch LCD screen, a maximum ISO of 1000 in shake-reduction mode and 10MB of internal memory.
The E40 will retail for a suggested $149.
